The Wild Source’s Bill Given, a Research Associate of the Denver Zoo who is studying lion/livestock conflict in Botswana has designed and will lead this special safari that is open for just eight participants. Working with extraordinary local guides that are hand-picked by Bill, we will visit the Serengeti in February to see the great migration at its absolute best – the calving season when 400,000 baby wildebeest are born.
Combining this area with the Masai Mara we will have unparalleled opportunities to observe big cats and their fascinating behaviors. While sightings can never be guaranteed this is the best time and place to see hunting behavior of lions, cheetah, and spotted hyena. Fortunately, good densities of predators ensures a healthy wild system and thus these areas are very rich for a full diversity of species and we will enjoy them all during our pursuit of the predators.
This is the quintessential East African safari that most people dream about when they think of Africa — all under canvas with wide open plains! In the classic safari style we have a true mobile tented camp that will move us through some spectacular Serengeti area locations, true wilderness away from crowds of tourists.
We then move onto one of the Serengeti’s finest seasonal tented camps – Lemala Ndutu Camp. From there we finish big at Mara Plains Camp in a private conservancy just outside the Masai Mara ensuring phenomenal game viewing and exclusivity to enjoy the wildlife without crowds of vehicles.
